Most FBR go-live delays are not mysterious API outages. They are validation errors: HS code and UOM mismatches, buyer registration type mistakes, sale type / rate issues, and missing SRO fields. This checklist helps finance and ops teams fix the problems they see every week - before they burn a production token on retries.
Rule zero: read the validate response
FBR/PRAL separate validate from post for a reason. Fix on validate. Only post when the payload is clean. If your software hides error text, change software - opaque failures create duplicate posts and messy books.
1) HS code and UOM mismatches
Reference APIs publish which UOMs are valid for an HS code. Hardcoding UOM in Excel is the fastest way to fail. Sync masters from FBR reference data (or software that refreshes them), then re-validate the line.
2) Buyer NTN / CNIC / registration type
- Wrong registration type for the buyer (registered vs unregistered paths differ)
- NTN/CNIC formatting or stale buyer records
- Further tax situations when selling to unregistered buyers
Clean the buyer once in a catalog; do not retype it on every invoice.
3) Sale type, rate, and SRO fields
Reduced-rate and SRO-linked supplies need the fields FBR expects for that rate schedule. If you only ever tested standard-rated B2B, sandbox (and production) will surprise you. See sandbox scenarios explained.
4) Dates, document types, and empty required fields
- Invoice date outside allowed windows
- Wrong document type for the transaction
- Missing province / seller origin fields your activity requires
- Line totals that do not add up to header tax fields
5) Timeout and retry discipline
If a post times out, do not blindly retry. Confirm whether FBR already accepted the invoice (duplicate FBR numbers are painful). Good software queues and reconciles; bad scripts double-post.
A calm weekly hygiene routine
- Refresh HS / UOM / sale-type masters
- Audit top buyers for NTN/CNIC accuracy
- Review reject log - group by error code, not by panic
- Re-train staff on validate → post → print order
How Taxora.pk helps
Taxora.pk surfaces validation issues in the workspace, keeps buyer/product catalogs, and only then posts - with QR PDF storage after acceptance. Bulk Excel on eligible plans still goes through the same validate-first idea. Explore features or request a trial.
FAQ
Validate passes but post fails - why?
Token/environment mix-ups, transient gateway errors, or data that changed between calls. Check environment (sandbox vs production), then re-validate before post.
Where do official error lists live?
FBR DI API technical documentation includes sales/purchase error code sections. Keep the PDF next to your reject log. Overview: DI API guide.
